The Seinfeld Seasons 1 & 2 offers the first glance into Jerry’s world, beginning with The Pilot (episode 1), which was initially titled The Seinfeld Chronicles. The first scene includes Jerry commenting to George about a button on his t-shirt (the same conversation later happens in the last scene of the series ending). These opening episodes provide insight into the advancement of the program’s four primary characters with conversations that range from George’s initial statement that he’d like to be an architect (episode 2) to Kramer’s tendency for getting rich quick plans like a make-your-own-pizza pizzeria (episode 4). From the first day, Seinfeld developed itself as a “should see TV,” developing such unforgettable episodes as “The Pony Remark,” “The Deal,” “The Chinese Restaurant,” and “The Stock Tip”.
In the pilot episode of Seinfeld, Elaine’s cast does not yet exist, and Kramer’s character (not yet called Kramer, however Feldman) is more of a jobless, worthless, shut-in neighbor than the usual quirky and energetic Cosmo. Playing the woman’s function in George and Jerry’s life is a wisecracking waitress called Claire (Lee Garlington), who never appears in later episodes.
George and Jerry do some laundry. Jerry and his next-door neighbor watch some TV … George and Jerry have some coffee … During that time, the dominant topic of discussion is a girl that Jerry is satisfied with while taking his funny act on the road. Feldman (Kramer), George, and Jerry discuss the topic constantly until the woman shows up and Jerry finds out that it’s all unimportant because she’s engaged.
The preeminent program of the 1990’s decade, Seinfeld grew from an idea of “a show about absolutely nothing” into a sacred pop culture icon – not that there’s anything incorrect with that. The show emulates the life of comedian Jerry Seinfeld and Jerry’s ex-girlfriend Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), the exploits of his “short, quirky, bald person” friend, George Costanza (Jason Alexander), Jerry’s aberrant neighbor Cosmo Kramer (Michael Richards). The loveable cast of characters joined through the years, including Uncle Leo, Newman, Frank and Estelle Costanza, the Soup Nazi, the Bubble Boy, and countless others.
